A married market stall holder scoops £1,365,996 in an instant while playing online
Keith R scooped an unbelievable £1,365,996.64 – that’s one million three hundred and sixty five thousand nine hundred and ninety six pounds and sixty four pence, to those without a head for numbers – while playing Deal or No Deal online at Jackpotjoy!
Keith R, a self-employed market trader won the sum on the morning of Saturday 10th January 2009, and he was more than happy to share the winning moment with us.
“On the day itself, I was working on the market and I headed home early – it was just so cold and quiet. My wife offered me a coffee and I switched on the computer and saw the banner for £1.3 million. I just knew I had to give it a try.
“I didn’t even realise I was in the Bonus Game at first but there they were: 22 boxes – and one of them was holding £1.3 million pounds.
“It chose lucky number 7 as my box, which felt good, then asked me to pick 5 more, then another 3, then another 3. I was picking them in a little pattern I could see in my head – but I left number my lucky three. I left that until last.
“Before I knew it, I had five numbers left - £14, £16, £40, £200 and the jackpot. I thought it’s not gonna make it easy! But after I picked 3 more numbers I was left with £200 and the big one.
“The offer came in at £362, and I knew there was no-way I’d take it! So I said No Deal and the box came forward and the moment itself was weird … I kinda knew I’d see £200 in the box and I was fine with it. Completely fine with it.
“But then, coming from out of the box, came the number - £1,365, 996.64 and … I mean … I looked up and saw my account balance going up and up and up.
“I called my wife over – we’re in a rented house at the moment – I went over to her and looked her straight in the eyes and said I think I might have done something that’ll change our lives forever.
“’Oh God,’ she said: ‘what have you done now?’
“I just grinned and took her over to the computer. I was in shock. She looked at the screen but she couldn’t get her head around the numbers – she thought it was like a few thousand or something – there were just too many numbers.
“And I said ‘I think I’ve just won £1.3 million pounds!!!!’
“Thing is, I still didn’t believe it, but when I looked at the chatrooms everyone was saying – it’s gone, it’s gone, it’s gone! And I saw that the Jackpot had gone down to £10k as well, and I was just shaking and saying, I’ve won it, my god I’ve won it!”
“I couldn’t scream though, ‘cause we had the plumber round at the time fixing the heating.”
“In the end I sat back at the computer thinking some work might help me deal with it, but I couldn’t concentrate. It’s just amazing. It really is – just amazing!”
And we’re also pleased to confirm that, alongside being Jackpotjoy’s biggest ever winner, Keith’s a lovely fella and we wish him and his family the best of luck for the future!
Véronique Landry is the only model to appear on more than one version of the show, on both the French and English Canadian versions. Other countries that have their own versions of the show include Albania, Armenia, Austria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Portugal (SIC network), Puerto Rico, and Vietnam, according to the UK version's website.
Variations
Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV) has a variation of "Deal or No Deal" embedded within its Saturday night weekly variety show hosted by popular TV host and one time recording artist Jacky Wu. The portion involved 16 boxes wherein celebrity contestants will play for NT$1.5 million top prize in denominations starting from NT$1.00. In this game though, Jacky Wu the TV host, also acted as a banker. He would randomly come up with an amount when the choice of boxes become fewer. Contestants however should successfully win a talent portion of the show before playing this game.
